A favorite blogger writes: "What has happened to all the women who are done with child-rearing? Young voices permeate the blogosphere." What do sixty-something women do with their lives, especially if they do not have full-time jobs? We're here to find that out.

A Good Fish
Daughter H doesn't often cook - she has other priorities and not much time. But when she puts her mind to it she's a whiz. Here's my birthday celebration: roasted Chilean sea bass on a bed of perfectly seasoned French lentils, with fresh steamed, buttered haricots verts. So OK, I did the beans, and chopped the shallots and garlic (who wants stinky hands?). What's a mom for, anyhow?
Looks great! As Mark Bittman commented in the NYTimes last week, the key to making food look restaurant-fancy is piling things on top of each other.
(BTW, we all really liked his monkfish on mashed potatoes recipe, although the kids did not want to try the final "$15 flourish" of a thyme sprig on top.)
Looks like a fun birthday party...but where's the CAKE???
I'm sixty-five. I still live in the same suburban NJ house where I raised my three daughters. They wonder what I do all day. Now they will be able to find out, and so will I.

That looks amazing! Things are always so elegant over at H&D's. Happy Birthday! Z
